Ottawa Park and the University of Toledo Rockets Tabbed to Host 2011 NCAA Regional Cross Country Championships

TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo announced today that it has been selected to host the 2011 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Championships at Ottawa Park Golf Course in Toledo. It will be the first-ever regional cross country championship meet to be hosted by the Rockets. The Great Lakes Region consists of all Division I programs in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin, and features schools from various conferences, including the MAC, Big 10, Big East, Horizon League, Atlantic 10 and several others.

GLRegionalOPGCToledo will join fellow regional host Northern Illinois as one of nine regional sites around the country next season. UT and NIU will be just the third and fourth Mid-American Conference schools, respectively, to host an NCAA Regional Championship.

"This is a great step for our program," said UT Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Kevin Hadsell. "I have had a dream of hosting this meet since I came here 12 years ago.  We are traditionally one of the top teams in the region, so to be able to race at home with a shot at the NCAAs is a great boost for our program."

“We are pleased to host this important event for the University of Toledo and the City of Toledo," said Greg Fish, a 1972 Toledo graduate and COO of Master Golf Management Group in Toledo. "Ottawa Park is truly one of the most important and historical municipal parks in the country.”
